UW Youth Soccer Season Study – now enrolling teams!
Aim: to study the effects of sport-related head impacts in adolescent soccer players over the course of a season of play.
Participants we seek: teams of adolescent youth soccer players, ages 12-13 or 16-18, currently participating in organized interscholastic or club soccer and have no active musculoskeletal injury that limits full participation in soccer activities, no history of moderate to severe head injury, and no history of prior cervical spine injury or surgery, and able to have an MRI (determined by answers to a set of questions, with examples for exclusion including claustrophobia, certain metals in the body, or pregnancy).
Participation involves: participating in your regular soccer season while wearing a sensor attached to a headband, visits to the UW campus to complete surveys, do tests of balance and neck strength, and have an MRI. The visits may be scheduled as one appointment or split into two, depending on your preference and availability, and will be done before your soccer season, and repeated after your soccer season.
Compensation: Participants receive up to $250 for completing the study.
