Welcome!

Welcome to the Youth Head Impacts and Concussion Research website.  This site is a hub for information about our research studies investigating sports-related head impacts in youth soccer players, concussion, brain function, and academic performance and socio-emotional challenges faced by youth recovering from a concussion.

Our research is conducted at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, led by a multidisciplinary team with expertise in acquired brain injury research and clinical care, including clinicians and researchers in the School of Medicine and Public Health, Waisman Center, College of Engineering, and School of Nursing. We also collaborate with experts in MRI and sensor data analysis at Robert Morris University. This multimodal approach approach of synergistically integrating advances in computational bioengineering, cellular neuromechanics, advanced neuroimaging and pediatric biopsychosocial assessment will lead to an entirely new approach for classifying and detecting acute and repetitive injuries due to head impact exposure in the adolescent brain.

Our aim is to examine the acute, subacute, intermediate and long-term effects of sport and non-sport related head impact (including acute and repetitive head impact) in middle school and high school children using a multimodal surveillance system approach.

If you have any questions, or would like to hear more or enroll in one of our studies, please go to Contact Us to get in contact with our research staff.
